Is the metro running now
The panel below shows whether MRT Line 6 is inside its published operating hours. It is not live data from the track: DMTCL publishes no real-time feed, so no site can honestly claim one. For disruptions, DMTCL and the Bangladeshi press are the fastest sources.

The Kamalapur extension is not open yet
MRT Line 6 is meant to run 1.16 km further, from Motijheel to Kamalapur, taking the line to 21.26 km and 17 stations. As of June 2026 the work was about 77% done — viaduct, station columns, platform slabs and roof complete. Test runs are planned for January 2027 and commercial operation for April 2027. What it means for you: nothing yet. Kamalapur already appears in DMTCL's published fare tables, which confuses people, but trains do not stop there. The line you can ride today ends at Motijheel, 16 stations.

A 25% discount for passengers 65+ and passengers with disabilities
DMTCL signed a station-by-station discounted fare table for senior citizens (65 or over) and passengers with disabilities. The discount is 25% off the normal fare, rounded to the nearest ৳5 — so a ৳100 journey becomes ৳75. What it means for you: these tickets have to be bought at the ticket office, not from a vending machine, with the relevant identity card. An earlier DMTCL guideline set 15% for passengers with special needs holding a Department of Social Services card; the 2026 table is the newer document.

Mirpur 10 back in service — the line is whole again
Mirpur 10 and Kazipara were damaged during the unrest of July 2024 and closed. Kazipara reopened on 20 September 2024 and Mirpur 10 on 15 October 2024. What it means for you: all 16 stations are open. Guides written in late 2024 sometimes still tell you to skip Mirpur 10.

The fare structure that still applies
The Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority set the tariff: ৳5 per kilometre, a ৳20 minimum and a ৳100 maximum for the 20 km from Uttara North to Kamalapur, with a 10% rebate when you pay by smart card. War-wounded Heroic Freedom Fighters travel free. What it means for you: the fare has not changed since the line opened; the MRT Pass discount is the only way to pay less, and it is worth it from about twelve journeys.

Why other sites give different numbers
Search for Dhaka Metro Rail and every site gives different times. Here is why — and which version we use.
- «07:10 to 21:00» versus «06:30 to 22:30». The first is an old figure that has been copied around for years — this site had it too until August 2026. DMTCL's own timetable page gives 06:30 from Uttara North, 07:15 from Motijheel, and last departures at 21:50 and 22:30.
- Station-by-station timetables. Several sites print a tidy first/last train for each of the 16 stations. DMTCL publishes no such thing — only terminal times and interval bands. Those tables are calculated.
- «Every 8–10 minutes». The real bands run from 5–6 minutes in the morning and evening rush to 20 minutes in the first and last half hour of the day, and they differ between weekdays, Fridays and government holidays.
- «16 stations» versus «17». Sixteen are open. Kamalapur appears in the operator's fare tables because the fares are already set, but the extension is still under construction.
- VAT on tickets. Reports of VAT being added to metro fares circulate periodically. The fare you pay at the machine is the one in the DTCA notification: ৳20 to ৳100. If that changes we will date the change here.
