About Uttara North

Uttara North (also known as Diabari) is the northern terminus of MRT Line 6. With Agargaon it was one of the first two stations of the Dhaka Metro Rail: the line was inaugurated on 28 December 2022 and opened to passengers the next day. It is located in Uttara Sector 17, immediately adjacent to Diabari Depot — the maintenance and stabling yard for the entire metro fleet.

The station serves the rapidly-developing northern fringe of Dhaka: Uttara Sectors 16, 17 and 18 and the gateway to Tongi and the Dhaka–Mymensingh highway corridor. Several upmarket residential apartment complexes and the Uttara Lake Park are within easy walking distance.

Uttara North is an elevated terminus; the sectors that are not within walking distance are a short rickshaw ride away.

Connections and transfers

MRT Line 6 — direct trains north (towards Uttara North) and south (towards Motijheel). No transfers needed for any L6 station.

Dhaka public buses — local BRTC and private bus routes serve the surface roads adjacent to Uttara North. Look for the signposted bus stand on either side of the road outside the station entrances.

Rickshaws and CNG auto-rickshaws — readily available at every entrance; useful for short hops to neighbourhoods not directly on the metro alignment.

How do I get from Uttara North to central Dhaka?

Board MRT Line 6 southbound. Uttara North → Farmgate ≈ 25 min, Uttara North → Motijheel ≈ 38 min — direct, no transfers, ৳100 single fare.

Is Uttara North accessible by car?

Yes, it can be reached by road, but DMTCL offers no park-and-ride. Most riders arrive on foot or by rickshaw.

Why is it called Diabari?

Diabari is the historic name of the immediate locality and the depot is officially named Diabari Depot. The station carries both names in everyday speech.

Is there a connecting bus to the airport?

Currently no direct rail-to-airport link. From Uttara North, taxis and CNG auto-rickshaws reach Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in about 15 minutes via Airport Road. MRT Line 1 will eventually link the airport directly.

What are the operating hours at Uttara North?

Uttara North is served by the same trains as the rest of MRT Line 6. From Sunday to Thursday and on Saturdays the first train leaves Uttara North at 06:30 and Motijheel at 07:15; the last leaves Uttara North at 21:50 and Motijheel at 22:30. On Fridays the first trains are at 15:00 and 15:20, with the same last departures. Trains come every 5–6 minutes at the busiest times and every 20 at the very start and end of the day. DMTCL publishes terminal times only, not a time per station.

Can I buy or recharge an MRT Pass at Uttara North?
