An independent guide to Dhaka Metro Rail
We are a small group: some of us are in Dhaka and use MRT Line 6, others build websites and tools. metrodhaka.com puts the practical things in one place — a page for each of the 16 stations, the line, the map, the timetable, fares and the MRT Pass, a route planner, and guides to the places you can reach by metro. It is free, needs no sign-up, and runs in English and Bengali.
We are not DMTCL. We sell no tickets, issue no MRT Passes and cannot help with refunds, penalties or lost property. For anything about the journey itself, go to the operator.
Where the data comes from
DMTCL's own timetable page
The operating hours on this site come from «মেট্রোরেল চলাচলের সময়সূচি» on dmtcl.gov.bd — the operator's own page, last updated on 7 June 2026 — with the first and last departure at each terminal and the interval bands, for weekdays, Fridays and government holidays separately.
The Fare Collection Guidelines
The ticket rules come from the bilingual «Fare Collection Guidelines of Dhaka Metro Rail» that DMTCL publishes as a PDF: MRT Pass price and validity, refunds and re-issue fees, who travels free, the time limit inside the gates, even which banknotes the machines take.
The DTCA fare notification and the 2026 discount table
The fare structure — ৳5 per kilometre, ৳20 minimum, ৳100 maximum — is set by the Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority notification of 8 September 2022. The 25% discount for passengers 65+ and passengers with disabilities comes from the DMTCL fare table signed on 25 May 2026.
If we cannot verify it, we do not print it
Where a figure has no source, the line is not there. That is why this site no longer shows a first/last train time for each individual station: DMTCL does not publish one.
Why nothing here says «real time»
Dhaka Metro Rail publishes no open data feed — no API, no GTFS, no GTFS-Realtime. We checked: there is not a single Bangladeshi feed in the Mobility Database, and the operator's site has no machine-readable timetable. A page on dmtcl.bd called «schedule» turns out to be the managing director's meeting diary, not train times.
So you will not find «live departures» anywhere on this site, and the MRT Pass balance tracker on the fares page runs entirely in your own browser — DMTCL has no public balance lookup, and nothing you type is sent to us.
What we fixed on our own pages
The operating hours were wrong at both ends
We said the metro ran 07:10–21:00. DMTCL's own timetable says the first train leaves Uttara North at 06:30 and Motijheel at 07:15, and the last leave at 21:50 and 22:30. We were sending people to look for a train forty minutes before the first one, and telling them the last had gone when it had not.
The station-by-station timetable was calculated, not sourced
We printed a neat table of first and last trains at all 16 stations. DMTCL publishes terminal times and interval bands only. The table has been removed and replaced with the operator's three real schedules — weekday, Friday and government holiday — and an explanation of what is missing and why.
The intervals were understated
We said 8–12 minutes. The real bands run from 5–6 minutes at the busiest times to 20 minutes at the very start and end of the day.
Thirty-three page descriptions promised «real-time travel times»
They do not exist for this network, and we should not have implied otherwise. Corrected.
The concessions were missing entirely
War-wounded Heroic Freedom Fighters travel free. Children under three feet tall travel free. Passengers 65 and over and passengers with disabilities pay 25% less. None of that was on the site; all of it is in DMTCL's published rules.
Corrections
We make mistakes, and the network changes. Write to [email protected] with a link to the page — we will check it against DMTCL and fix it. The month we last checked stays on the page so you can see how fresh a figure is.
How the site is funded
The site is free. Hosting and development are paid for by advertising. Advertising does not influence the content: we receive nothing from DMTCL, sell no tickets, place no paid links in the text and do not sell reader data.
Questions and answers
No. metrodhaka.com is an independent information site, with no connection to Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited.
No. Single Journey Tickets come from the machines or the ticket office at the station; the MRT Pass is issued at the ticket office against a registration form and photo ID.
Because DMTCL publishes none — there is no API and no GTFS feed for this network. We would rather show the published timetable and say so plainly.
It matches DMTCL’s page as last updated on 7 June 2026, and we checked it in August 2026. Fares were checked at the same time.
Who is behind this site
This site is run by the team at GoRandom, a small group based in the Basque Country in Spain who do two things that go together better than they sound: travel, and build websites.
We were in Dhaka in October 2023, and the city guide on gorandom.es came out of that trip. We liked it enough to want to go back, and after enough hours spent staring at network maps and comparing travel passes this turned up: a site about nothing except how you actually get around here.
The other half of what we know how to do is web development, and this site is the excuse to put the two together. We do not leave it sitting there: every fare and every timetable carries its source and the date we checked it, and they get revised when the operator changes something. The last thorough revision was in August 2026: the site said trains run 07:10–21:00 when DMTCL’s own hours are 06:30–22:30, and we removed a station-by-station timetable that the operator does not publish.
He decides what goes up, checks the data before it does, and answers the email. If you find a fare that has expired or a timetable that no longer holds, there is a specific person to write to.
