About Shahbag

Shahbag is one of the most culturally and politically significant intersections in Dhaka. The metro station opened with the southern extension on 4 November 2023 and serves an area packed with universities, museums, hospitals and historical landmarks.

Within easy walking distance you have the National Museum of Bangladesh, the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Suhrawardy Udyan park, the Charukola Institute of Fine Arts of Dhaka University, the Bangla Academy and the Public Library.

Shahbag is also famous as a gathering place for protests and cultural movements — most notably the 2013 Shahbag protests. The flower market at the south of the intersection is a Dhaka institution.
